Influencing levy spend
Input from dairy farmers is essential to our decision making. This input is achieved in a number of ways:
• Farmer interests are represented on the board of Dairy Australia by three farmer board members directly elected by farmers.
• The views of farmers are collected regularly through Dairy Australia farmer surveys including the quarterly National Dairy Farmer Survey and the Situation and Outlook report.
• Farmer reference groups are established through the regional dairy bodies and Australian Dairy Farmers Limited, regularly consulting with farmers on issues such as animal welfare, herd productivity and pasture.
• An important input into levy spend comes from the eight ‘Regional Development Programs’. RDPs are responsible for driving research RD & E in each dairy region.
