Farm business management

Background:

The dairy industry is operating in a complex environment with challenges arising from climatic conditions, milk prices, labour shortages, input availability and costs. This creates opportunity and risk.

The challenge is to help farmers address volatility and elevated cost of production by providing the decision making support needed to maintain a business and a margin.

The role of extension is to facilitate/influence the pace of learning and the adoption of innovation. Our role is to build the capability of farmers, service providers and researchers to understand/apply farm business management principles.

Program objective:

Provide change management/information services to increase the capacity of dairy farmers to manage complexity and respond to volatility in the operating environment.

Build farm business management capability in dairy farmers, advisers and the research sector, including equipping them with the tools and resources to fully utilise that capability.
