Key issue:

Development of farm systems that can manage a volatile and variable climate and market environment, and build and maintain margins for farm businesses. This includes better understanding the nutritional impacts and tradeoffs of various combinations of feed and hence enabling the farmer to better optimise diet formulation and animal performance.

Planned outcomes:

More resilient and adaptable farm businesses. Reduced on-farm feed unit input costs via increased homegrown forage production and consumption, and improved system management. Develop genetic technology to help farmers grow more nutritious, productive and resilient pastures and crops, and breed more profitable cows.
