Farm recovery from natural disasters
Background:
With increased climate variability, some farmers have been exposed to extreme climatic conditions, severely impacting on their business.
Dairy Australia provides a range of programs to support these farmers and help them deal with these situations. This project will allow us to respond quickly when the need arises.
Project objective:
Help farmers manage in times of natural disaster, and provide them with access to a range of extension packages to help them recover quickly.
Project scope:
Funding available to provide pre farm gate services to farmers to assist them cope in the event of natural disasters.
Activities generally relate to extension and are part of the recovery process. Programs could include animal health and welfare, feeding systems, feedbase and farm infrastructure.
Outcomes/benefits:
Providing farmers with appropriate skills and decision making tools helps them recover quickly from a natural disaster.
It also ensures that farmers are being informed of the range of government support and services available to them.
