Korea market development
Background:
The main objective in Korea is to maintain a strong industry presence in the market while FTA negotiations are concluded and an agreement is ratified. This is necessary to maintain Australia's position in the market which is under threat following Korea's conclusion of FTAs with the EU and USA.
A dairy industry presence is necessary to develop and maintain networks that are needed to achieve these objectives. The networks established by these programs also:
- Address concerns about Australia’s commitment to supplying Korea in times of product shortage
- Assist Dairy Australia's market intelligence work
- Support work to remove non tariff barriers to trade as they arise.
Project objective:
To achieve a successful outcome for Australia from the FTA negotiations, that will allow the Australian industry to remain price competitive and with practical options to expand profitable export sales into the Korean market.
Project scope:
The key target in Korea is the range of people representing customers, traders, industry associations and Government who form part of a network which has been built up over many decades. In most cases these are high level operators who have significant influence on purchasing decisions and policies.
These people are targeted through an integrated program of seminars, workshops, scholarships, alumni activities, government meetings and individual meetings with companies in Korea and Australia throughout each year.
Outcomes/benefits:
The main objective of this program is to achieve a successful outcome for Australia from the free trade agreement negotiations, that will allow the Australian industry to remain price competitive and with practical options to expand profitable export sales into the Korean market.
Regular presence in the market through seminars and market meetings with individual companies will allow for open communication that better caters to the changing trends in Korea and Australia and encourages further discussions of any matters arising.
These activities also allow for networking opportunities between key players.
The scholarship program will continue to foster relationships between new management of key companies and the Australian dairy industry network to expand possible business development options.
