Improving management of high value product opportunities
Background:
There is a need to develop bio-scientific capability and opportunities in the industry to enable increased opportunity to transfer technologies into high value products and markets. Effective communication is essential to ensure not only that industry is aware of the opportunity but it is in line with their needs.
Project objective:
Develop the bioscience capability within the industry together with providing opportunities in line with the strategic priority of maintaining and developing high margin products and markets.
In the short term it is intended to identify and present industry with bioscience based opportunities based on high margin components.
Project scope:
This project facilitates industry discussion which will identify technology transfer knowledge and skill gaps in bioscience. Encompassing the manufacturing bioscience area this project intends to develop and manage knowledge to improve the margin, volume and market opportunities for dairy based product and processes. The focus will be in IP management and an industry mechanism for high end technology scanning.
Outcomes/benefits:
Develop and manage bioscience knowledge to assist manufacturers in developing high margin markets and products.
Examples include:
- By mid 2011 a compendium of high value product opportunities will be produced and, by the end of 2011 delivered to industry. Periodic updates for the information will be reviewed with industry in 2012.
- By mid 2011 and under the direction of industry, IP will be identified that may be suitable for in-licensing. This process will be reviewed as to the benefit for ongoing reviews.
- Throughout 2011 translate the opportunities for industry involvement in the International Milk Genomic Consortium. From 2012 industry to be directly involved.
