Regional National Resource Management coordinators

Background:

The future of Australia's dairy industry will depend on its ability to adapt to climate change, policies designed to reduce greenhouse gas production. The dairy industry will be judged by the community on the basis of how it reacts to the dual challenges of climate change and greenhouse gas mitigation, and increased resource scarcity.

That judgement will flow through to an impact on industry access to natural and financial resources. By acting to support adaptation now, the opportunities associated with climate change and resource scarcity can be identified and captured, and exposure to future risks to the industry can be reduced.

Project objective:

  • Coordinate the regional delivery of industry NRM and Climate Change projects such as Future Ready Farming Systems (otherwise known as MAADI) aimed at increasing industry confidence to manage climate change.
  • Build industry understanding about the strategies and technologies available to respond positively to the opportunities and uncertainties of climate change.
  • Build a regional NRM and CC co-ordination process that delivers required industry NRM outcomes e.g. regional NRM action plans are implemented; stakeholders are informed of opportunities and issues as they emerge.
  • Increase industry access to NRM and CC funding support e.g. Caring for our Country, Australia’s Farming Future.
  • Improved synergies between different industry and NRM stakeholder activities.
  • Industry leaders and partners provided with evidence-based information on industry NRM issues, alternative policy options and their potential implications for industry and other stakeholders
