Health & nutrition issues management
Background:
Health and nutrition issues relevant to dairy can significantly impact the industry by: impacting the perceived value of dairy foods to the diet, influencing consumption of dairy food and contributing to policy/regulatory barriers.
Issues that are neglected may lead to reputation damage and a reduction of dairy consumption. It is essential that the industry is well prepared to respond in a timely, consistent and measured way to key issues in relation to dairy health and nutrition.
Project objective:
Ensure that developments in health and nutrition issues with potential to impact on dairy food consumption or value perception are identified in a timely manner and managed effectively.
Project scope:
The project has a long-term focus, with an initial 5 year plan covering four key initiatives:
- Utilising monitoring tools to identify emerging issues, track ongoing issues and measure impact
- Where necessary commissioning new scientific studies to strengthen the evidence base for messages supporting dairy foods in key vulnerable areas
- Proactively and reactively managing general nutrition issues
- Building programs of work that aim to manage key ongoing issues such as milk fat, diet and sustainability and protecting dairy’s role as a key source of calcium
Outcomes/benefits:
Dairy consumption is protected via the identification, assessment, determination and management of appropriate responses for issues relevant to dairy foods and health.
