Upskilling the manufacturing workforce via global networking

Background:

Australian dairy manufacturers, especially small/medium ones in regional areas, lack the ability to access and interact with global experts who can help them innovate, improve productivity, and grow their business. Developing strong global networks with relevant experts is essential to ‘transfer’ global learnings to Australian dairy which can enhance industry capability, accelerate innovation and develop sustainability.

Up skilling through global networking can significantly improve capability and provide up to 4 times the return on investment. Furthermore, this stimulates personal development and increases knowledge, skills and capability.

Project objective:

Seek and engage global experts and organisations to accelerate the upskilling of the Australian industry in specific/relevant technical areas.

Facilitate new networks which will provide Australian dairy industry with opportunities to discuss, improve and innovate through the latest communication technologies.

Project scope:

This project will engage with global experts and transfer their knowledge and skills to Australian industry. The communication technologies used for such transfer include:

  • Webinars
  • Face to face workshops
  • Industry visits

For example, world cheese experts, Dr Eric Spinnler from France and Dr Mark Johnson from Wisconsin will conduct several two-hour interactive webinars for cheese manufacturers. Similarly, experts from USA, NZ and Australia will be engaged to deliver webinars on topics of interest to the industry.

About 10-15 webinars and 2-4 workshops by experts are planned each year. Webinars are very cost effective and suit industry needs.

Outcomes/benefits:

Up skilling through global networking can significantly improve capability and provide up to 4 times the return on investment. This project keeps Australian industry personnel abreast of latest global advances and developments, thereby improving the efficiency of value adding. Specific outcomes include:

  • improve the knowledge and skills of the Australian workforce
  • improve innovation, sustainability and productivity of the industry through better skilled and better trained workforce.
