Grains-to-milk feed report tool now available

Feed analysis services help dairy farmers compare alternative feeds, check nutritional specifications and decide which feeds are the best buy.

While these feed analysis reports are helpful, results can be difficult to interpret and act on. Farmers generally have a lot of unanswered questions — is this a good energy or protein level for this particular feed? Is this feed a good buy compared to alternatives? What are its limitations and which animals is it most suitable for?

A new web-based tool, My Grains2Milk Feed Report, is now available and will help you get the most out of your feed analysis reports.

Once you enter results from your feed lab report for a particular feed, you will be instantly provided with a summary report featuring:

  • Star ratings and comments for the feed’s dry matter, energy, protein and NDF contents
  • Conversions between kilograms on an as-fed and dry matter basis
  • Calculations for cents / kg dry matter, cents / Megajoule, and $ / kg protein (if it is a feed you are looking to buy and you enter the purchase price)
  • Recommendations on what to consider when buying, storing and feeding that particular feed to your herd
  • Links to other useful information
