Bovine Johne's Disease

Australia’s cattle industries and governments are working towards a national, less-regulated approach to managing bovine Johne’s disease (BJD).  The National BJD Strategic Plan aims to minimise the contamination of farms and farm products, protect the status of non-infected herds and minimise BJD’s social, economic and trade impact at herd, regional and national levels.

In the dairy industry, dairy farmers can use a number of tools to help them manage BJD, including participation in Cattle Market Assurance Programs (Cattle MAP), calf rearing (the 3 Step Calf Plan) and declaring an animals National Dairy BJD Assurance Score (Dairy Score) when trading cattle.
