Australia’s cattle industries and governments are working towards a national, less-regulated approach to managing bovine Johne’s disease (BJD). The National BJD Strategic Plan aims to minimise the contamination of farms and farm products; protect the status of non-infected herds; and, minimise BJD’s social, economic and trade impact at herd, regional and national levels.
In the dairy industry, dairy farmers can use a number of tools to help them manage BJD, including participation in Cattle Market Assurance Plans (Cattle MAP), calf rearing (The three step plan) and using the National Dairy BJD Assurance Score. The following links may prove useful to understanding more about BJD and how it is being managed in Australia and overseas.
