“Get on Board” says Dairy Australia Chairman Print E-mail
Dairy Australia Chairman, Max Roberts, put the word out on Wednesday 11 June that his Board of Directors is seeking an appropriately qualified milk producer to join them in late 2008.

This role, along with two other Board positions, will be appointed via election at this year’s Dairy Australia AGM, to be held on 28 November 2008 at Flemington Racecourse in Victoria. Each year three Board positions are declared vacant and this year two current directors, Geoff Akers and Peter Nankervis, are renominating.

“The Board Selection Committee (BSC) pro-actively searches for suitably skilled people who are willing and able to make a valuable contribution to the industry by becoming part of the Dairy Australia Board,” said Max Roberts.

“This year we have set up a Pre-Selection Committee (PSC) to support the BSC in identifying suitable candidates to fill the vacancy for a milk producer on our Board.”

“At the 2007 AGM we made a commitment to our members, that they would be the first to know about any opportunities to be involved in Dairy Australia’s activities or weigh-in on important decisions,” said Max.

“This is obviously a significant opportunity of that nature, and I am pleased to honour that commitment and give suitable candidates plenty of time to come forward.”

The official Notification of Election will appear today in both national and rural press. Dairy Australia members will also receive formal notification of the election process via mail.

Persons interested in the Board Director vacancy for a milk producer should contact Company Secretary, Sandy McKendrick on (03) 9694 3785, for referral to the PSC.

All responses must be received by Friday, 27 June 2008.

A Selection Process for the other two Board positions will be managed by Spencer Stuart and will not be subject to pre-selection. Potential non-milk producer candidates should direct queries to Michael Wheatley at Spencer Stuart on (03) 9654 2155.

The Pre-Selection process is intended to ensure the identification of milk producer candidates who can demonstrate:

  • A leadership role in developing a successful dairy farming enterprise in competitive markets, with demonstrable commercial acumen;
  • Interest and involvement in, and knowledge of, issues and industry structures in their region at a State and national level;
  • Active participation and credibility within their community (not limited to farming);
  • Ability to represent the dairy industry’s interests with strong communication skills and links, and the ability to facilitate consultative discussion.
