Time is running out to apply for a 2008 Nuffield Scholarship.
Applications for the scholarship, which allows farmers from across the agricultural sector to improve their farming knowledge and management skills by going on an international study tour, close on June 30.
This year Dairy Australia and The Australian Dairy Conference have sponsored one scholarship for a dairy farmer.
Dairy Australia’s Farm Productivity and Delivery manager, Steve Coats, said the investment will help boost the industry’s leadership capacity.
“The need for leadership across the whole value chain of the Australian dairy industry has never been greater than today. Large opportunities and risks lie ahead for the industry and the capacity of its leaders will play a significant role in its success,” Mr Coats said.
Jamie Snell, who farms in Merrigum in northern Victoria, said winning the 2006 scholarship allowed him tremendous opportunities.
“The relationships and contracts you develop through the international network of Nuffield are exceptional, and with the willingness to share knowledge and information, you are constantly challenged by new concepts and thinking in an exciting new era in agriculture.”
To be eligible for a Nuffield Scholarship you must be:
• An Australian citizen.
• Engaged in farming as an owner or manager or an active member of a farming business.
• Intending to remain involved in primary production in Australia.
• Aged between 28 and 40 (applications outside this range may be considered).
