Veterinary support now available for flood-affected dairy farms in NSW
In response to the current flooding, we want to ensure you are aware of immediate veterinary support available to assist with the welfare of your livestock.
Private veterinarians are authorised to provide emergency treatment for animals impacted by the floods. This support is being delivered through the Agriculture and Animal Services Functional Area (AASFA), which will cover the cost of the initial veterinary consultation and treatment.
What’s covered:
“Emergency treatment” includes the initial vet consultation and the immediate care required to address the animal’s urgent health or welfare needs.
Please note: this support does not cover follow-up consultations or ongoing treatments beyond the initial visit.
You are eligible if you farm in:
- Cessnock City Council
- Maitland City Council
- Newcastle City Council
- Lake Macquarie City Council
- Port Stephens Council
- Dungog Shire Council
- Mid-Coast Council
- Port Macquarie-Hastings Council
- Kempsey Shire Council
Examples of eligible situations:
- A large portion of your dairy herd develops mastitis after being dried off due to flood disruption. A vet attends and provides antibiotics.
- Cattle develop lameness from standing in inundated paddocks. A vet attends to assess and treat the affected animals.
We strongly encourage you to contact your local veterinarian as soon as possible if your herd has been impacted.
For more information or assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact your local Dairy NSW team member. We are here to support you and your farm business through this difficult time.
