Identifying and addressing lameness in dairy cattle is an essential part of both animal management and farm business management.
Delivered by local SE Vet, Andrew Hoare, this practical one-day workshop will teach participants ways to reduce lameness on farm, how to recognise lame cows early and how to correctly treat simple cases. This workshop is suited to decision makers and more experienced farm staff.
The day will cover:
The costs of lameness
How we can prevent lameness through good management and handling practices
How to recognise lame cows, the common causes of lameness and basic anatomy
How to safely restrain and examine the lame cow
Correct techniques for treating lameness, specific use of equipment and tools
This day includes a theory session in the morning (TAFE SA Ag Room), followed by a practical session on farm (Fiander Moor).
Places are limited and registration is essential.
