Mastitis and milk quality affect the bottom line of all dairy farms. Dairy Australia estimates that every case of clinical mastitis costs at least $270 in treatment costs and lost milk.

Subtropical Dairy invites you to join us for an online session with Carl Hockey to be followed by on-farm sessions (MNC & FNC NSW, SEQ, DD, SC and FNQ), to discuss some practical management considerations for preventing, detecting and treating mastitis in your dairy herd.

Milking and Mastitis Management (previously, Cups On Cups Off) is atraining course designed to help dairy farmers achieve best practice in milk harvesting, with the emphasis on the detection, treatment and prevention of clinical mastitis.

Carl Hockey from RuralVet, will facilitate the online discussion and NSW and SEQ on-farm sessions, with Bill Tranter facilitating the FNQ on-farm session.

The course which involves two hours online followed by one day on-farm, includes:

  • Food quality and safety
  • Stockmanship
  • Workplace, health and safety
  • Milk harvesting
  • Plant cleaning
  • Mastitis detection, treatment and prevention

Milking and Mastitis Management covers the whole milking process including mastitis management and the roles of people in the dairy. The course is suitable for anyone on a dairy farm who milks cows - from farm owners, managers and share farmers to family members and farm employees. This training has already helped many dairy farmers to reduce the spread of mastitis and lower the risk of clinical cases of mastitis in their herds.
