Understanding heifer fracture syndrome in South-West Victoria

Veterinarian Sarah Matthews has been investigating forelimb factures occurring in 70+ dairy heifers across 14 farms in South-West Victoria since 2019. Results indicate trace mineral deficiencies are a risk factor for these fractures. Meat and Livestock Australia are funding a project, managed by Merdian Agriculture, to update information of trace mineral deficiency in Victorian grazing systems.
