Would you like to support the industry in an Emergency Animal Disease Outbreak?

Improving biosecurity and preparedness for a pest or disease outbreak in Australia remains a priority for Australian Dairy Farmers (ADF) and Dairy Australia (DA). Recognising the increased threat level, ADF and DA have combined with Animal Health Australia to develop a 'Liaison - Livestock Industry' (LLI) program tailored specifically for the Australian dairy sector with a series of workshops planned in 2025 across Australia.

LLIs are ADF appointed representatives who work with the biosecurity agencies to ensure response plans and activities understand local issues and needs as well as assisting with local intelligence about how the sector operates. As the name suggests, they act as a liaison between government and industry and work as a conduit for information to pass back and forth.

As a core part of the LLI program, the workshops are aimed at developing the capability for the dairy sector to engage with government biosecurity agencies during an outbreak by developing the skills, knowledge, and confidence of industry representatives to work in the LLI role. It is recognised that more LLIs are needed nationally to ensure the sector is well represented and existing LLIs have support and backup during an outbreak.

Individuals interested in supporting the sector and their region during an emergency are encouraged to learn more about the role at the Animal Health Australia website. Prior to attending the workshops, potential LLI representatives will be asked to complete a short online familiarisation course which is available via the Animal Health Australia website.
