Take time out to review strategic and operational calf rearing management.
Participants will examine the following aspects of calf rearing:
1. Preparation for calving
2. Management of calf environment -incl biosecurity
3. Colostrum management
4. Nutrition -including weaning
5. Dairy calf pathways
6. Calf husbandry -including identification
7. Calf health management
This program is suitable for experienced calf rearers and graduates of the Rearing Healthy Calves fundamentals program. Participants will complete examination of their own calf rearing operations to identify areas for improvement. At the completion of this review, you will develop a farm specific action plan to support you achieving your calf rearing goals.
This program is being delivered by Debbie Twiss. Debbie is a veterinarian who worked in a variety of dairy cattle practices in New Zealand and Australia, since graduating from Massey University in 1996. In 2019 Debbie pivoted from clinical practice to enter the world of extension by taking up the position of extension advisor with WestVic Dairy.
