The Focus Farms program supports a network of Australian farms, tracking real decisions on real farms under real conditions over a two year period.
Real farms, real conditions and real decisions.
What is it?
Our Focus Farms program supports a network of Australian farms, tracking real decisions on real farms under real conditions over a two year period. Each of the farms are in regular contact with us to provide updates that we then pass on to you.
Why do we do it?
Located in a number of dairying regions, Focus Farms provides important findings to the rest of the industry to share and learn from. Varying conditions, regional factors and farming approaches across the Focus Farms participants mean we capture a wide range of data and information. These insights can then help other dairy farmers to make impactful decisions for their own farms.
Changes in markets, costs or seasonal conditions have created a real need for support that will help farmers to be more confident about the decisions they make. The Focus Farms program goals are to improve farmer decision-making, management of risk and farm profitability.
Our investment in this program gives Dairy Australia and our Regional Development Programs (RDPs) a stronger understanding and connection with farmers at a local level, and highlights the issues that we need to be focussing on for our wider farming communities.
How does it work?
Focus farmers are selected through an application process and supported over the two years by a farm consultant and a support group made up of other farmers and service providers. The support group meets regularly throughout the year, and hosts open days for other interested farmers and the dairy industry to get a closer look at the Focus Farms’ progress.
