DairyNSW Feed Management Tips

Are you purchasing the right feed for your herd?

Challenging dry conditions means feed and feed quality are top of mind for some New South Wales dairy farmers.

Make sure you’ve checked out Dairy Australia’s feed planning and purchasing fact sheets to assist when buying feed. By planning well, buying right and feeding carefully, you can get the best value for your money.

Don’t gamble with feed quality

Go beyond the price tag of feed. By checking the relative cost per unit of Metabolisable Energy (ME) and Crude Protein (CP) versus alternative feeds, you can see whether the feed stacks up.

Check the physical quality of your feed before you buy it, including whether it’s too dry or too course. If you’re having feed delivered and it feels off when you look at it, don’t accept delivery.
