Learn how to make sound decisions when managing irrigation systems. This pilot workshop will discuss steps that are vital to effective irrigation, including enhanced water use and application, as well as understanding the tools and resources that are available to dairy farmers.

Key workshop outcomes
  • Assess and maintain the efficiency of various irrigation systems.
  • Determine the readily available water (RAW) for different soil types and crops, and how to apply irrigation at the right time and rate to maintain soil moisture within the RAW zone.
  • Utilise water balance calculators and soil moisture monitoring tools to make informed scheduling decisions.
  • Analyse and interpret weather data to adjust irrigation strategies effectively.
  • Identify and troubleshoot common irrigation system issues to enhance water productivity.
  • Apply strategic irrigation techniques to maximise crop and pasture yield while optimising costs and minimising negative environmental impact.
