Australian Dairy Plan

The Australian dairy environment was changing and, with it, brought new challenges that required collaboration across the whole industry, including dairy farmers, processors and the community.

Development and delivery

Launched in September 2020, the Australian Dairy Plan aims to rally the industry by setting a clear vision and purpose for the following five years and beyond, providing a blueprint for the industry.

The development of the Australian Dairy Plan was led by Dairy Australia, Australian Dairy Farmers, Australian Dairy Products Federation and the Gardiner Dairy Foundation, with John Brumby serving as Independent Chair.

Over 1,500 farmers, service providers, processors, retailers, investors and other key stakeholders participated in a nationwide consultation from May through to June 2019. This provided an opportunity for participants across the dairy industry to share their say on what was needed to create a more profitable, confident and united sector.

  • Profitable: financially sustainable and profitable across the entire supply chain.

  • Confident: a sense of optimism and confidence relating to future success was felt throughout the industry, including competing at a local and global level.

  • United: the industry, right across the country, understood where to focus and where it needed to apply its collective efforts and voice to achieve this goal.
