Good for cows and your farm business...
Cows' feed intake can be reduced at temperatures as low as 23C. Calves born to heat stressed cows have lower birth weights and impaired immune function. Heifers from heat stressed cows produce less milk in their first lactation.
This 4 hour workshop is for farmers who want to
- understand why and when cows overheat
- learn how to monitor signs of heat stress
- find strategies to reduce risk of heat stress occurring in their herd:
- There will be a farm walk/talk to share/review locally effective strategies for keeping cows cool.
- The research findings from the feeding cool cows project will be presented and discussed with farmers.
Participants will take home the updated Dairy Australia Keeping Cows Cool manual; fact sheets from the feeding cool cows research project and skills to reduce heat stress impacting their herd health and profitability. Lunch will be provided -please register to assist catering.
