Nutrition Fundamentals is a two-day course is designed to provide dairy farmers, farm staff, and service providers with a strong foundation in ruminant nutrition. Through a combination of classroom learning and on-farm application, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed, cost-effective feeding decisions.
Day 1 (Classroom):
Covers key nutritional concepts including energy (ME), crude protein (CP), fibre (NDF), nutrient requirements, and how to balance rations to meet herd needs.
Day 2 (On-farm):
Focuses on applying knowledge in a practical setting, including condition scoring, feed assessment, and identifying feed gaps.
Topics include:
- Ruminant digestion and intake limits
- Nutrients supplied by common feeds
- Cost-effective supplementation strategies
- Feeding young stock and cost of rearing
- Diet balancing and comparing feed costs
This course is ideal for those new to dairy nutrition, looking to refresh their knowledge, or preparing for more advanced training.
