Top Fodder: From Crop to Cow Corn Silage & Nutrition

Join us for a practical, hands-on day designed to help dairy farmers get the most value from their corn from whats happening in the paddock right through to performance in the vat.

Well start on-farm in the morning with David Lewis (Lallemand), taking a close look at the host farms corn crop and silage stack. This session will focus on the key decisions that influence silage quality, including chop length, cutting timing and milk line assessment, as well as how crop management throughout the season, such as spraying, irrigation and predicted harvest timing, impacts the final feed in the pit. The session will be informal and discussion-led, shaped by on-farm observations and group questions.

Following Davids session, we will head into town to the Tongala Football & Netball Club, where Dr Steve Little will lead a feeding and nutrition session focused on getting the best performance from maize in the dairy ration. Steve will explore how different forms of maize, including silage and grain can be used effectively in milker diets, with a strong focus on feed intake, cow health and milk production.

Whether youre aiming to fine-tune silage decisions or make maize work harder in your herds diet, this day offers practical take-home tips, expert insight and plenty of opportunity for discussion from crop to cow.
