Contribute to the direction of the Young Dairy Network whilst developing skills in leadership, communication, governance and strategy.
The Young Dairy Network (YDN) provides technical information, industry support and social opportunities to young people and newer entrants in the dairy industry.
Activities for the network are determined by a Steering Committee, made up of farmer and service provider representatives from across the region.
We are looking for new Steering Committee representatives!
In 2018, the Steering Committee started to develop a new strategy for YDN. This involved workshopping current opportunities and challenges for the industry and network, identifying areas where we are doing well and where we could do better, and surveying young farmers and service providers to hear about their involvement with the YDN and what they'd like to see in the future. In 2019 the Steering Committee will continue to develop this strategy and a program of activities.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for passionate young people in our industry, who would like to gain some skills and experience in the development of strategy, governance, communication and/or leadership.
We are looking for people who enjoy engaging with other young people in the industry and feel that they could help to enhance the YDN.
What’s in it for you?
- Build skills that are helpful on and off farm
- Gain leadership experience that will help you on a pathway to other roles in industry
- Get exposure to new ideas and experiences in agriculture
- Be a part of priority setting, planning and development for the network

The Steering Committee meets once every two months for a half-day meeting, with the location rotating around the region.

Steering Committee members also nominate for sub-committees for some of our larger projects (e.g. our Study Tour or annual get-together) which requires an extra 2-4 hours per year.
Committee members are involved in our Discussion Groups, events and tours, of their choosing.
