Our Leadership Team

Dairy Australia's Executive Leadership Team is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the organisation. It is also responsible for ensuring Dairy Australia delivers against the performance targets set out in our strategic and operational plans. The Executive Leadership Team comprises:

Dr David Nation - Managing Director

With a career in dairy spanning 20 years, David has a background in agricultural science and has fulfilled various commercial and technical roles in the animal breeding and herd fertility service industries.

Prior to Dairy Australia, David was Co-Director of DairyBio and DairyFeedbase, and before that Chief Executive Officer of Dairy Futures CRC.

Managing large scale innovation projects, David has also led industry-government partnerships for the dairy industry that have committed to invest over $240 million over a 10 year period.

David is passionate about the power of bringing the dairy industry together, and connecting farmers with people across the government, private and not-for-profit sectors to advance Australian agriculture.

Group Manager – Trade and Industry Strategy

Charlie McElhone

Charlie leads the Trade and Industry Strategy team at Dairy Australia. This team is responsible for facilitating profitable international trade of Australian dairy products and providing information, analysis and market intelligence to the Australian dairy industry. This includes ensuring the industry's interests are upheld in the vital area of international trade policy reform, as well as providing factual advice on potential impacts of domestic policies in areas such as water, carbon and chemicals regulation.

Charlie came to DA from the National Farmers Federation (NFF), where he was the General Manager of Policy. Apart from overseeing all policy activities of the NFF, he also took primary carriage of the organisation's advocacy in the Economics and Trade portfolios and lead NFFs efforts on carbon mitigation policy in relation to the carbon tax and the Carbon Farming Initiative.

Group Manager – Farm Profit and Capability

Peter Johnson

Peter leads the Farm Profit and Capability Group, which invests in research, development, extension and education activities to support the profitability, sustainability and competitiveness of Australian dairy farmers. He was previously the Program Leader of the Feedbase & Nutrition portfolio. Peter has a broad range of Agribusiness experience, coming to Dairy Australia from the Pasture Seed Industry where he was the National Sales and Marketing Manager of a large seed company and led a strong period of growth combined with a number of business acquisitions and integrations. Peter has worked for Rabobank, did a two year stint as an Agricultural Advisor in the Falkland Islands and has worked in extension for NSW Agriculture delivering courses like Top Fodder and ProGraze.

Group Manager – Business and Organisational Performance

Elizabeth Parkin

Elizabeth leads the Business and Organisational Performance Group which includes Strategy and Corporate Planning, Finance, Information Technology, Company Secretariat and Corporate Affairs.

Elizabeth has over 25 years experience in senior management and corporate advisory roles in multiple organisations such as Ernst & Young, KPMG and Lander & Rogers. She has a strong record of achievement in roles including as a corporate finance director and chief operating officer.  Her strength lies in the strategic planning for the companies she has served along with implementing these strategies and business improvement.

Elizabeth has broad board experience and has served as a director on multiple boards and the chair of audit and risk committees.

Group Manager – Marketing and Communications

Kendra Campbell

Kendra has experience and qualifications in Marketing, Corporate Communications and PR, most recently as a Marketing Manager with Coles Express and prior to that, holding a variety of senior management roles at Baker's Delight, including General Manager Marketing, Group Marketing Manager and Group Corporate Communications Manager.

Kendra has been responsible for entire portfolios spanning brand advertising, marketing, product development, PR, media relations, franchise engagement, reputation management, and internal/external communications.

Manager – Sustainability including Food Safety and Integrity

Helen Dornom

Helen has a long history in the dairy industry, working for organisations including CSIRO, ADIC and ADPF. The work included RD&E, issues management, supply chain, regulatory standards, policy frameworks, export facilitation, sustainability and international work including the development of the International Dairy Federation/Food and Agriculture Organization guides: Good Dairy Farm Practices; Prudent Use of Antimicrobial Agents. Helen also works with the Global Dairy Sustainability Framework (DSF) and the Sustainable Agriculture Initiative (SAI). Helen joined DA when it was first formed, having been CEO of ADIC and Executive Director of ADPF for many years.

Hay and grain reports

The hay and grain report is commissioned by Dairy Australia to provide an independent and timely assessment of hay and grain markets in each dairying region. The report is updated 40 weeks per year.
