Program Overview
Compliance with State regulations, reducing the impact of dairy effluent upon catchment water quality and a drive to reuse otherwise wasted resources to improve the utilisation of valuable nutrients means dairy farmers are seeking advice on how to better manage their effluent.
Professional effluent system design practitioners are in demand in all dairy regions of Australia.
This is a specialised technical course for private or public service providers seeking recognition as an Effluent System Designer or to increase capabilities to better advise on general effluent use. The course covers all facets of effluent and manure management for dairy farms and concentrates on the design standards for storage, treatment and reuse. Course Details Block 1: 3rd & 4th June 2026 Agriculture Victoria, Ellinbank Office Block 2: 16th to 18th June 2026 Agriculture Victoria, Tatura Office Cost: $2,200 excluding GST Costs have been subsidised for 2026 by Dairy Australia Enrolments Close 18th May 2026 Participants must attend both training blocks, pass a knowledge quiz and prepare two Effluent Management Plans. It is advised that participants have some background/ experience in engineering or infrastructure development and/or irrigation or soil fertility. Upon successful completion you will be provided with a Statement of Results and added to the database of Effluent Designers (a list often used in response to enquiries signposting practising service providers). Catering will be provided during course contact times. Participants will be responsible for organising and covering costs associated with travel to and from the training venues, accommodation, breakfast and dinner.
About the Presenters Training is delivered by Scott Birchall (AgSystems Design) and Rachael Campbell (Agriculture Victoria). Scott Birchall (AgSystems Design) provides effluent, feedpad and dairy systems advice to farms across Australia. Scott has delivered national training for service providers in effluent design and management since 2010.
Rachael Campbell (Agriculture Victoria) provides manure/effluent management and utilisation advice to Victorian dairy farm businesses and associated service providers.
