Nutrition Fundamentals is a two-day course is designed to provide dairy farmers, farm staff, and service providers with a strong foundation in ruminant nutrition. Through a combination of classroom learning and on-farm application, participants will gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to make informed, cost-effective feeding decisions.

Day 1 (Classroom):

Covers key nutritional concepts including energy (ME), crude protein (CP), fibre (NDF), nutrient requirements, and how to balance rations to meet herd needs.

Day 2 (On-farm):

Focuses on applying knowledge in a practical setting, including condition scoring, feed assessment, and identifying feed gaps. We have the opportunity to work through the cows daily requirements and then work through balancing a diet to meet these needs

Topics include:

  • understanding the 4 stomach chambers and their functions
  • Nutrients supplied by common feeds
  • Cost-effective supplementation strategies
