First 100 Days in Milk

From transition to peak lactation: strengthen the advice you provide farmers

Designed for dairy industry service providers who provide nutrition advice to farmers, this advanced course builds on Transition Cow Management to explore nutrition and feeding decisions from transition through the first 100 days of lactation. The day follows the cow from the pre-calving transition period through the fresh period and into early lactation, with a strong focus on applying nutrition principles to improve cow performance and farm profitability.

Through the course, you will explore how to:

  • further develop management of the pre-calving transition period
  • plan nutrition for fresh cows to support feed intake, health and performance
  • optimise nutrition during early lactation to support cow productivity and profitability
  • assess feeding and supplementation decisions using both nutritional and economic principles
  • interpret key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement
  • develop practical, herd-specific strategies with farmers to improve nutrition and management during the first 100 days in milk.
