Value of Trade

Strong global demand creates opportunities to sell Australian dairy at premium prices, supporting profitable industry growth.

Australian farms produce more milk than can be consumed locally – around 30 per cent is exported as various products. Without access to export markets, this surplus would remain in Australia, intensifying domestic competition and limiting business growth.

Dairy Australia works to improve market access and secure profitable international markets. This means more opportunities for Australian farmers and manufacturers.

Celebrating trade partnerships

Since 1999, Dairy Australia’s global trade programs have built strong international partnerships – opening doors to valuable export opportunities unmatched in Australian agriculture.

In 2024, a delegation visited China and Japan to mark 25 years of the trade scholarship program, strengthening ties with key export markets. Tasting sessions at conferences further showcased the quality of Australian dairy.

The 10th anniversary of the South-east Asia trade scholarship was celebrated in early 2025, covering Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand – vital markets for future growth.
