Aussie rules legend and media personality Jonathan Brown has been appointed as a dairy industry ambassador, as part of an increased focus on marketing and promotion identified as a priority in the Australian Dairy Plan.

Dairy Australia’s Glenys Zucco comments that ambassadors and influencers are important components of marketing campaigns, and enable brands to get greater reach and impact when communicating with consumers.

“An increased focus on industry marketing and promotion to build consumer trust and improve the value of dairy is a key commitment of the Australian Dairy Plan. Ambassadors were identified as an important means of achieving this during a nationwide consultation exercise for the plan and there was a call for a high profile ambassador for the dairy industry. We’re delighted to be moving on this commitment with Jonathan’s appointment.

“Jonathan is someone who not only understands the industry but truly believes in it due to his personal connection. He is the perfect ambassador to help promote trust and relevancy for dairy.”

Jonathan comes from a multi-generational dairy farming family and brings a genuine and passionate connection to the role of working with Dairy Australia to continue to support, promote and protect the industry.

From his experiences in growing up on a farm, he knows the importance of dairy to regional communities and comments “Aside from football, the dairy industry is the other centrepiece of many regional towns.”

The former Brisbane Lions captain also credits high protein dairy foods as playing an important role in his preparation and recovery as a professional athlete and furthermore, as a father of three, the importance of the key nutrients such as calcium in dairy as part of a healthy diet for growing kids.

On his role as an ambassador for the dairy industry, Jonathan says, “Dairy has played such an integral role in so many parts of my life so I’m so excited to be working with the dairy industry to ensure more Aussies understand why dairy matters for health and to our local communities.”

His success on the field led to his current media career where he provides insights and analysis on the game through both live game commentary and speciality programs for FOX Footy, as well as co-host of NOVA FM’s Melbourne Breakfast show.

‘Browny’ will help to promote dairy to Australians through industry campaigns including Dairy Matters, World Milk Day, and Healthy Bones Action Week, across channels including TV, radio, outdoor billboards and print media. He will also support social media engagement, media commentary and attend industry events.
