Industry outlook insights on Sundowner agenda

02 December 2025

A snapshot of the latest Dairy Australia's Situation and Outlook report will be presented at this week’s Western Dairy Spring Sundowner event.

Dairy Australia’s Industry Analyst Madelyn Irvine will share the December report highlights with attendees.

The report gives expert analysis and unbiased insights on the latest domestic and international dairy market trends.

Madelyn said the latest report indicates there is a mixed outlook on the horizon this season for Australia’s dairy industry.

“Strong local retail demand and a higher farmgate milk price are helping to support farmers, but global price shifts, unpredictable weather, and rising input costs continue to put pressure on profitability,” Madelyn said.

“Milk production is expected to ease by about 2 per cent, as export markets adjust after earlier price highs and farm margins remain tight.

“While domestic sales across major categories are holding up well, challenging conditions and persistent cost pressures mean the production outlook for the rest of the season is cautious,” she said.

As an industry analyst, Madelyn is part of the Economics, Data and Insights team at Dairy Australia.

Madelyn publishes regular reports on hay, grain, production inputs, and spot prices, prepares market overviews for key importing markets, as well as the Situation and Outlook reports and annual In Focus publication.

Madelyn’s role has a dedicated focus on farm inputs, global markets and the domestic retail market, providing insights and analysis for Dairy Australia publications and external industry contacts.

Madelyn looks forward to sharing insights into the current situation and outlook on dairy across Australia but also, specifically, to Western Australia.
