Bushfire support for Victoria

12 January 2026

Dairy Australia regions are working alongside local Dairy Industry Leadership Groups to deliver support for farmers through this bushfire season.

Practical information and resources are available to support preparedness, response and recovery, including planning tools, checklists and links to relevant services.

Key support and recovery resources

  • The Victoria Government also has recovery support available for people affected by the Victorian Fires that started on 7 January 2026. Visit vic.gov.au for more information.
  • If fires have affected your property – including dead or injured animals, crop loss or damage, or you have fodder and water needs – you can access information and support on the Agriculture Victoria website.
  • Transporters supporting the transportation of fodder are eligible for a freight rebate. This is only available for transporters directly engaged by the VFF Emergency Fodder Program. Producers need to apply through the transport registration form before hay is delivered.

Counselling, mental health and wellbeing

  • Rural Financial Counselling Service has experienced counsellors that provide free, confidential support with insurance matters, financial recovery, education around available assistance and grants, navigating lenders, and planning next steps.

About Dairy Industry Leadership Groups

Established in 2016 by the Victorian Government in response to the dairy price downturn, Dairy Industry Leadership Groups continue to play a pivotal role in coordinating support services for dairy farmers and industry stakeholders across Western Victoria, Murray and Gippsland regions.

Dairy Industry Leadership Group members include the dairy farmer representative bodies (Dairy Farmers Victoria and United Dairyfarmers of Victoria), Agriculture Victoria, Rural Financial Counselling Services, milk processors, local government, relevant Commonwealth government agencies and local health care services. This unified approach ensures that support efforts are well-informed and responsive to the evolving needs of the dairy community.
